Pune, July 26, 2026: Yet another road accident has occurred on the Shivarkar Road stretch outside the Bank of Maharashtra in Wanowrie, with a truck crashing into the central median on Saturday night. The latest incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over what residents describe as one of the city’s most dangerous accident-prone locations.
According to local residents, the stretch has witnessed numerous accidents over the years, with vehicles frequently mounting or colliding with the road divider. Despite repeated efforts by authorities to install reflective markers and safety devices on the median, many of the reflectors reportedly go missing or are damaged, reducing visibility for motorists, especially during the night.
The recurring accidents have prompted residents to demand that the location be officially identified as a “black spot” and that immediate corrective measures be implemented to prevent further mishaps. They have questioned why accidents continue to occur at the same location despite repeated incidents and public complaints.
The truck involved in Saturday night’s accident sustained damage after climbing onto the divider. No casualties or serious injuries were immediately reported. However, the incident caused concern among motorists and local commuters using the busy road.
Residents have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Traffic Police to conduct a comprehensive road safety audit of the stretch. They have called for permanent solutions, including improved road engineering, better illumination, durable reflective signage, enhanced lane markings, and stricter monitoring of speeding vehicles.
With accidents continuing to occur at the same spot, locals say temporary fixes are no longer sufficient and have appealed to civic and traffic authorities to take urgent action before another serious or fatal crash takes place.
