Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Alerts For 22 Districts As Heavy Rain Likely Over Next 72 Hours
Mumbai, July 26, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Maharashtra over the next 72 hours, issuing Yellow Alerts for 18 districts and Orange Alerts for four districts on Monday (July 27). The weather department has warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of the state.
According to the IMD, the monsoon is expected to intensify during the final week of July, with favourable conditions for widespread rainfall over the next two to three days. While some regions have been witnessing intermittent sunshine, rainfall is expected to become more widespread from Monday onwards.
Konkan to Witness Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rain is likely over Mumbai, Thane, and Sindhudurg, which have been placed under a Yellow Alert. Raigad and Ratnagiri are under an Orange Alert, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. Palghar is expected to receive moderate rainfall.
North Maharashtra Forecast
Dhule and Nandurbar are likely to experience light showers accompanied by gusty winds. Jalgaon has been issued a Yellow Alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall. Similar weather is expected in Nashik, including the ghat sections, and Ahmednagar.
Pune and Western Maharashtra
Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while Sangli and Solapur may witness isolated light showers. The ghat areas of Pune and Satara have been placed under an Orange Alert, while the Kolhapur ghat region is under a Yellow Alert, with heavy rainfall expected over the coming days.
Marathwada and Vidarbha
In Marathwada, districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Hingoli, Nanded, and Latur are under a Yellow Alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rain. Parbhani, Beed, and Dharashiv are also expected to receive moderate rainfall.
In Vidarbha, Akola, Buldhana, and Washim are likely to remain largely dry. However, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal are under a Yellow Alert for thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall.
Advisory for Residents
The IMD has advised residents, particularly those living in ghat regions, low-lying areas, and along riverbanks, to remain alert as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds could affect several parts of the state through the next two to three days. Authorities have urged citizens to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions while travelling or venturing outdoors.
