As the monsoon rains continue to lash various parts of North India, rivers and streams have turned into raging torrents, swelling with dangerous force. Yet, despite repeated warnings from authorities about the risks of venturing near water bodies during heavy rainfall, some individuals continue to ignore the dangers in the name of adventure — or perhaps, recklessness.

A recent video that has gone viral on social media shows the terrifying moment a Mahindra SUV was swept away while attempting to cross a swollen river, reportedly near Nayagaon, Chandigarh. The dramatic footage has left viewers both shocked and outraged, sparking conversations around the thin line between courage and carelessness.

“Only an idiot would expect anything else. There’s a big line between foolishness and bravery. Video from Nayagaon Chandigarh as a Thar washed away by heavy river water flow. The only question is why risk your life? No machine can ever stand against the power of nature!”

In the video, a white Mahindra SUV — believed to be a Thar — is seen inching into a fast-flowing river, despite the visibly dangerous current. Two men are involved in the stunt: one is behind the wheel, while the other is standing at the back of the vehicle. As the SUV pushes forward, the sheer force of the water becomes apparent.

Within moments, the car loses control. The current tilts the vehicle sideways, flipping it once before dragging it further downstream. The driver is briefly seen leaning out of the window before the vehicle flips, but quickly disappears from view. The man at the rear attempts to climb onto the top of the vehicle, desperately clinging on as the SUV continues to be carried away by the raging river.

“Only an idiot would expect anything else…” — the comment that accompanies the video reflects the sentiment many share after watching the dangerous stunt unfold.

While the video is said to be from Nayagaon, near Chandigarh, there is still no official confirmation regarding the exact location, the identities of the men, or their condition after the incident. It also remains unclear when exactly the video was recorded. Though Mahindra SUVs are known for their rugged build and off-road capabilities, no vehicle is designed to combat nature’s full fury — especially not against the force of floodwaters.
