Puneri Metro’s Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Line Marks First Trial Run On Ganesh Chaturthi
Pune, August 27, 2025 – On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Puneri Metro reached a historic milestone as it conducted its first-ever trial run on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar corridor. The trial was successfully carried out between Maan Depot and Station No. 10 at Balewadi Stadium, showcasing steady progress in one of Pune’s most anticipated infrastructure projects.
This development marks the first time a metro train has ventured beyond the depot into the main alignment of the route. Engineers and technical teams closely monitored the movement, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols. The trial run was a crucial step towards evaluating track performance, signaling systems, and other essential technical parameters.
Once completed, the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro line is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, particularly for IT professionals commuting to and from Hinjewadi’s major tech parks. The 23-km stretch will connect key residential, business, and educational hubs, promising faster and eco-friendly travel for thousands of daily commuters.
Officials have indicated that further trial runs will follow, with phased progress leading up to full-fledged operations. The successful maiden run has infused fresh momentum into Pune’s urban transport plans, symbolizing progress and festivity hand in hand.
The Pune Metro Line III is a 23 Km elevated Metro rail project connecting the IT hub of Hinjawadi to the Central business district of Shivajinagar. It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium consisting of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
The Project is developed & operated on a Design, build, finance, operate & transfer (DBFOT) basis by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for a Concession Period of 35 years including the construction period.
