Pune, August 30, 2025 – The city is set to host the first-ever Sansad Sports Festival in November, an initiative aimed at promoting a strong sports culture across the country. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, during a press conference held at Deccan Gymkhana on National Sports Day.

The festival, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Fit Youth for Developed India’, will feature competitions in 33 different sports, including Indian traditional games and international disciplines. The event will also include special categories for senior citizens and people with disabilities, featuring chess, carrom, basketball, and swimming, among others.

An organising committee comprising renowned athletes such as Khel Ratna Awardee Anjali Bhagwat, Arjuna Award winners Manoj Pingle, Rekha Bhide, Shantaram Jadhav, Vilas Kathure, and chess grandmaster Abhijit Kunte, will oversee the event. Around 20,000–25,000 participants are expected to compete.
