These Vehicles Get Toll Exemption On Atal Setu, Mumbai–Pune Expressway and Samruddhi Highway
Mumbai, September 3, 2025: In a major push to promote the electric vehicle (EV) industry and provide relief to EV owners, the Maharashtra government has announced toll exemptions for electric vehicles at all toll plazas, including Atal Setu, the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, and the Samruddhi Highway.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaiak informed that the decision was taken under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. As per the notification issued under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1958, all categories of electric vehicles will be exempted from toll charges on designated routes.
According to the government’s notification, the following vehicles are eligible for toll exemption:
Electric four-wheelers (M2, M3, M6 categories)
Electric buses operated by State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and private operators (M3, M6 categories)
This exemption came into effect from midnight of August 22, 2025.
Minister Sarnaiak added that this step will play a crucial role in encouraging eco-friendly transport and promoting the use of clean energy across Maharashtra.
