Pune: PMRDA Files Cases Against 8 Individuals For Unauthorized Tree Cutting, Warns Developers To Seek Permission
Pimpri, September 4, 2025 – The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has registered criminal cases against individuals involved in unauthorized tree cutting within its jurisdiction. PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has instructed that no tree should be cut without prior permission, warning that violators will face strict legal action.
The directives were issued during a meeting of the Tree Authority Committee held at PMRDA’s Akurdi office. Dr. Mhase emphasized that the move is part of PMRDA’s commitment to environmental conservation and to curb illegal tree felling.
So far, PMRDA has received 18 complaints of unauthorized tree cutting. After verification and panchanama (spot inspection), cases have been registered against 8 individuals, while inquiries into the remaining 10 complaints are underway. Once inspection reports are finalized, further action will be taken. Dr. Mhase also warned that if unauthorized tree felling is confirmed, the construction permissions of ongoing projects will be suspended.
PMRDA clarified that when applications for tree cutting are submitted, officials conduct on-site inspections before granting or denying approval. Therefore, citizens and developers must obtain official permission before proceeding with any tree cutting.
The meeting also discussed new proposals related to tree felling. Present at the meeting were Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Director of Development Permissions and Planning Avinash Patil, Tree Officer Mahesh Patil, and members of the Tree Authority Committee.
