Story of IAS Couple Cleared UPSC Together On Third Attempt, Later Tied the Knot

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of the toughest competitive exams in India, testing candidates’ perseverance, discipline, and academic excellence. For Praveen Kumar and Anamika Singh, both hailing from Bihar, this challenge turned into a shared journey of determination and eventual success. The couple, who cleared the exam on their third attempt in 2020, later got married, earning admiration across social media.
Praveen Kumar, from Jamui district, is the son of a medical shop owner and a homemaker. After schooling in Jamui, he cracked the JEE exam and went on to pursue Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur. Though he faced failures in his first two UPSC attempts, his persistence bore fruit in 2020, when he secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 7. Following training, he was allocated to the Bihar cadre.
Anamika Singh, from Bakhri village in Gopalganj’s Kuchaykot block, is the daughter of a retired army officer. She studied at an Army School in Yamunanagar and later earned a B.Tech in Computer Science from AIT Pune. While preparing for UPSC in Delhi, she also appeared for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, where she secured the 8th rank in the 65th BPSC attempt. Despite two setbacks in UPSC, she persevered and cleared the 2020 exam with an AIR of 348. She was subsequently allocated to the Uttarakhand cadre.
The couple tied the knot in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, after completing their training. Their journey—from repeated failures to becoming IAS officers together—has inspired many aspirants and stands as a testament to patience, resilience, and shared dreams.
