Pimpri Chinchwad: During the recently concluded Ganesh festival, Pimpri Chinchwad Police initiated action against 40 Ganesh mandals for violating the ban on laser beam lights, issued under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code.
Among the areas, Wakad recorded the highest number of violations with 17 mandals, followed by Pimpri (8), Nigdi (5), Sangvi (5), Dapodi (3), and Talegaon Dabhade (2). Police confirmed that these mandals were booked for defying the prohibition orders.
In addition to the laser beam violations, authorities also carried out widespread noise pollution checks using noise level meters across the commissionerate limits. Officials measured sound levels at several locations to ensure compliance with permitted norms.
Assistant Commissioners of Police have begun preliminary investigations based on the recorded data, and further legal action is expected against those found exceeding prescribed noise levels.
Police officials reiterated that maintaining cultural traditions during Ganeshotsav should go hand in hand with adhering to safety and environmental guidelines.
