Pune, September 10, 2025: Frustrated over decades of neglect, citizens of Wagholi have announced an indefinite hunger strike beginning September 13, 2025, at 10 AM at Bakori Phata, Wagholi. The agitation, organized under the leadership of the social and welfare group Wagholi Against Corruption Organization (Team WACO), seeks to resolve the long-pending and critical Bakori Road issue.

Background

The Bakori Road, originally marked as a 60-feet road in the town planning scheme, was never developed. Activists allege that due to collusion between PMRDA and builders, permissions, town planning approvals, and occupancy certificates were issued despite the road not existing. Citizens, despite paying taxes and development charges, continue to risk their lives traveling daily on a narrow 9-feet road.

The poor condition of the road has resulted in frequent accidents, severe traffic congestion, and daily hardships for thousands of residents.

Key Demands of Protesters

  • An inquiry into how PMRDA granted approvals without ensuring the road’s availability, with strict action against guilty builders and officials.
  • A written explanation from the Collector and concerned authorities on why Bakori Road is still unavailable.
  • Immediate completion of land acquisition with fair compensation to farmers.
  • Widening and legalization of Bakori Road and other internal roads in Wagholi to ensure safety and accessibility.

Voices From The Protest

Team WACO President Anil Kumar Mishra said:
“This movement is for a basic necessity – the availability of Bakori Road. Until the administration takes concrete action, the indefinite hunger strike will continue.”
