Vacation turns into nightmare as racial hostility, violence, and indifference leave couple traumatised

What was meant to be a joyful vacation in Switzerland turned into a harrowing ordeal for Canada-based, Indian-origin couple Nikita and Karan. The couple, who were celebrating their anniversary and birthdays on June 24, say they were physically assaulted by the manager of Seehotel Schwert, a lakeside property reportedly run by a Chinese family.

According to their account, hostility began soon after check-in, when they were made to feel unwelcome “because of their skin.” The couple raised a concern about a room fan being removed without notice, but the hotel manager allegedly refused to speak English, responded aggressively, and brushed off their queries. Attempts to resolve the matter in German through translation did little to ease tensions.

The real horror unfolded the next morning during checkout. As the couple once again mentioned the incident, the hotel manager allegedly launched a violent assault, kicking, punching, and striking both Nikita and Karan. The attack escalated when he hurled a heavy metal object directly at Nikita’s face.

The blow left devastating injuries. Nikita instantly lost one tooth, fractured twelve others, and has since been undergoing extensive dental surgeries. Her face is altered, and her confidence shattered. “I don’t feel like myself anymore,” she told content creator Ashish Rajput, who highlighted the story on Instagram. “She avoids mirrors,” his post read, alongside images showing broken teeth, swollen lips, and bloodied skin.

The couple say they are both suffering from severe PTSD, anxiety, and panic attacks. While physical recovery could take more than a year, the psychological trauma may linger far longer.

Disturbingly, instead of facing immediate consequences, the hotel manager reportedly filed a counter-complaint against Karan. The couple fears this may turn the case against them. Swiss authorities have yet to clarify whether the accused has even been questioned. The hotel, for its part, has denied all allegations, claiming Nikita and Karan were rude and violent first.

The silence from Swiss officials and the lack of visible accountability have added to the couple’s despair. Their story has since gone viral online, sparking outrage and drawing attention to the vulnerabilities faced by tourists, racial prejudice, and gaps in legal protections abroad.

For Nikita, the nightmare continues. “While the physical injuries may take over a year to heal, the panic attacks, anxiety, and PTSD may haunt her forever. And yet, no one helped,” Rajput’s viral post concluded.
