Survey reveals shifting investment priorities as young Indians use profits to enter the real estate market

The dream of owning a home at a young age is no longer just an aspiration, it is becoming a reality for India’s Gen Z and millennials. A new report highlights how today’s youth are rewriting the rules of real estate by tapping into the gains from the stock market, mutual funds, and cryptocurrency to fund their property purchases.

According to the ANAROCK Homebuyers Sentiment Survey (H1 2025), nearly 70% of millennials (aged 29–44) plan to use their investment profits to buy a house. This marks a significant change from previous generations, where homeownership was typically a later-life goal. For millennials, property isn’t just an asset but also a lifestyle choice, with many prioritizing spacious, well-designed homes for their families.

Gen Z is proving equally ambitious. The survey reveals that 40% of those under 28 are already on the path to homeownership by leveraging returns from the stock market, crypto, and mutual funds. Unlike earlier generations, Gen Z buyers are gravitating toward premium properties and aiming for early financial independence.

The report also highlights how investment priorities differ across age groups. Gen X (45–60 years) tends to balance real estate with business and savings, while Baby Boomers (61 and above) see property as a pillar of retirement security. Interestingly, millennials are also showing an entrepreneurial streak, with some exploring business ventures alongside property purchases.

The survey underscores why real estate continues to dominate as the safest and most preferred investment option for Indians. A striking 63% of respondents ranked real estate above the stock market (22%) and gold (7%). Furthermore, 44% of investors who had previously diversified into other financial instruments are now turning back to property, reflecting its strong appeal amid economic uncertainty.

In essence, the younger generations are reshaping the real estate market, by blending modern investment strategies with traditional aspirations. For Gen Z and millennials alike, the formula is clear: earn, invest smartly, and secure a dream home early in life.
