Pune, September 13, 2025: Women travelling daily for work, studies, or other purposes in Pune, Mumbai, and nearby areas continue to struggle due to the lack of sufficient and hygienic public toilets. Many are forced to endure distressing situations, and holding back natural urges often leads to health complications. Citizens have expressed concern that while Pune is opening its doors to international trade and tourism, such a basic necessity remains unresolved.

To address this issue, a memorandum has been sent to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging the government to enforce measures that would ensure clean, safe, and accessible toilet facilities for women across the city.

Activists have highlighted that Pune has nearly 250 petrol pumps, and as per licensing conditions, each pump is required to provide toilet facilities for the public. They have appealed to petrol pump operators to fulfill this responsibility and make these facilities safe and usable for women.

The demands include:

  1. Adequate water supply in toilets.
  2. Regular cleaning and sanitization.
  3. Proper lighting for day and night use.
  4. Installation of CCTV cameras for women’s safety.
  5. Clear signboards for easy access.
  6. Provision of sanitary napkin dispensers and vending machines.

Tushar Damgude and Omkar Yenpure, who are leading this initiative, stressed that this is not a personal or political issue but a matter concerning every family. They have invited citizens to actively participate and support the campaign. Those willing to join can contact them at 9850065423.

They further added that instead of engaging in political rivalries, concerned individuals should approach their leaders to resolve this issue and take credit for it if they wish—since the cause is far bigger than partisan politics.
