A bizarre incident in Indore’s Shiv City, Nihalpur Mandi, turned violent on Thursday, September 11 after a fight broke out between two families over the name of a pet dog. What started as a disagreement about a dog being called ‘Sharma Ji’ quickly escalated into a heated argument and physical assault, leaving a couple injured and a police case registered.

How the Argument Started

According to officials at Rajendra Nagar police station, the dispute began when Bhupendra Singh, a resident of the area, allegedly named his dog ‘Sharma Ji.’ His neighbors, Virendra Sharma and his wife Kiran, who share the same surname, felt that the dog’s name was a deliberate attempt to mock their family.

Police said Virendra, who works at a private company in Pithampur, told them that Singh would often call out to his dog using the name ‘Sharma Ji’ in front of them and other residents. People in the society would reportedly laugh whenever this happened. The couple believed the dog was intentionally named to humiliate them.

From Words to Physical Assault

The tension came to a head on Thursday night around 9:30 pm when Virendra and Kiran were out for a walk. Bhupendra Singh, who was accompanied by his dog and two friends, allegedly repeated the act and again called the dog ‘Sharma Ji’ while making objectionable remarks.

When Kiran reportedly objected, the argument turned into a shouting match. According to the police complaint, Singh and his two friends allegedly attacked the couple. Virendra claimed that Singh grabbed his head and slammed it against a garden wall, leaving him injured. Both Virendra and Kiran sustained injuries in the incident.

Police Action and Case Details

Following the altercation, the injured couple went straight to the Rajendra Nagar police station to file a complaint. The police confirmed that based on their report, a case has been registered against Bhupendra Singh and his two associates.

The case has been filed under sections 296, 115(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly making derogatory remarks and assault. Officials added that the investigation is underway and statements from all involved parties are being recorded.

Residents Express Shock

Local residents of Shiv City have expressed shock over the unusual reason behind the fight. What began as a petty provocation over a dog’s name ended in violence, raising concerns over how quickly small disputes can spiral out of control.

Police said they are examining all angles of the incident and are questioning witnesses to get a clearer picture of how the confrontation unfolded. Authorities stated that appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
