98.3 Mirchi Pune Mobilizes 9,000 Citizens For ‘Waste Harta Pledge’ During Ganesh Utsav 2025
Pune, September 15, 2025: Ganesh Utsav, Maharashtra’s grandest festival, is known for devotion, joy, and community spirit, but it also leaves behind a massive waste footprint.
In 2024 alone, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recorded nearly 200 tons of regular waste and 706 tons of nirmalya (floral offerings and biodegradable material) generated during the festivities. Addressing this concern, 98.3 Mirchi Pune launched the “Mirchi Waste Harta Pledge” campaign during Ganesh Utsav 2025, encouraging citizens to embrace cleanliness as a lifestyle.

The initiative aimed to set a record for the highest number of citizens pledging to keep Pune clean. To make it accessible, pledge drives were conducted in schools, colleges, and housing societies, with Mirchi RJs taking the lead. RJ Adhishh Nimi visited schools, while RJ Utsavi, RJ Nidhi, RJ Snehal, and RJ Milind spread the campaign across multiple platforms. Two live pledge booths at Dagadusheth Mandir and District Court Metro Station allowed devotees and commuters to participate digitally via QR codes, ensuring a transparent and eco-friendly process.
The response was overwhelming—close to 9,000 Punekars took the pledge and received their “Mirchi Waste Harta” digital certificates, symbolically becoming waste warriors. The movement also garnered strong celebrity and official support, with actor Mrinal Kulkarni, lyricist Guru Thakur, actor Siddharth Jadhav, Chaitanya Mauli, DCP Krushikesh Rawale, social activist Punit Balan, and Shweta Saxena leading by example.

Mirchi listener Neeraj Modani played a crucial role behind the scenes, ensuring the campaign’s smooth execution. By amplifying the message through on-air, on-ground, and digital platforms, the campaign reached every section of society—from schoolchildren and homemakers to professionals and senior citizens. Its digital-first approach minimized paper use, reinforcing the eco-friendly spirit.
“With nearly 9,000 citizens pledging to keep the city clean, 98.3 Mirchi Pune showcased how entertainment media can drive impactful social change. The campaign highlighted a powerful message—cleanliness is not just the government’s responsibility, but a collective duty of every citizen,” shared Smita Tribhuvan, Zonal Content Head, 98.3 Mirchi Rest Of Maharashtra.
