Aishwarya Rai Moves Court Over AI-Morphed Objectionable Images, Delhi HC Orders Takedown of 151 Links
Actress seeks protection of personality rights after misuse of her likeness online; injunctions to be issued against multiple entities
The Delhi High Court has stepped in to safeguard actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s personality rights after she raised serious concerns about the circulation of AI-generated objectionable photographs misusing her name and likeness. The court, on Tuesday, directed the removal of 151 URLs identified in connection with the matter and said injunction orders would be passed against multiple entities.

Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing on behalf of the actress, argued that her images were being morphed and commercially exploited without consent across various online platforms. Presenting screenshots from YouTube, he explained, “These are never images belonging to Aishwarya Rai. Neither has she authorised such images. All are AI generated, including intimate photographs that are completely unreal. Her name and likeness is being used to satisfy someone’s sexual desires. It is very unfortunate.”
The court took serious note of the misuse and ordered immediate action. Justice Tejas Karia, presiding over the matter, clarified that takedown directions would specifically apply to the 151 URLs flagged before the bench. “There are only 151 URLs which will form part of the order as far as you are concerned. You take down,” the court told Google’s counsel, who referred to past instances where similar takedown requests were complied with, including in cases involving the film Andaz Apna Apna.

The High Court further observed that since Aishwarya Rai’s plea sought wide-ranging protection, separate injunctions would be passed against each of the defendants named in the matter. “We will pass orders against each of the defendants because prayers are broad. But we will grant injunction separately,” Justice Karia remarked.
The takedown order for the identified URLs will be uploaded by Tuesday evening, while injunctions will be issued in due course to ensure that similar misuse does not recur.
The case highlights growing concerns over the abuse of artificial intelligence for creating morphed or fake intimate images of celebrities and exploiting them online for profit. With the court’s intervention, the actress has taken a decisive step in asserting her rights and setting a precedent for safeguarding public figures against digital impersonation and misuse.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on January 15, 2026.
