Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who has been spearheading a statewide drive against food adulteration and the sale of banned products, has shared his personal food preferences and views on safe eating habits.

In a recent interview, Mundhe was asked whether he enjoys eating outside and what kind of food he prefers. Responding to the question, he said he does not like eating at hotels and prefers home-cooked meals. According to him, food should be consumed not just for taste but also for good health.

Mundhe added that while he occasionally eats outside, he generally avoids it. “I prefer food prepared at home. I don’t eat at hotels because I believe food should nourish the body and not just satisfy the taste buds,” he said.

Speaking about street food, the senior IAS officer revealed that he does not allow his children to eat food sold on roadsides and follows the same practice himself. However, he clarified that he is not against street food altogether. He said roadside food can be safe if vendors maintain proper hygiene and comply with food safety standards.

He urged people to ensure that the food they consume is hygienic, safe and sourced from vendors who follow the required regulations.

During the interaction, Mundhe was also asked whether he ever feels afraid while taking strict action against those violating food safety laws. He replied that fear has never guided his decisions. Instead, he said he believes in working systematically and performing his responsibilities with complete honesty and commitment.

Known for his strict administrative approach, Tukaram Mundhe has been leading several enforcement drives across Maharashtra against food adulteration, illegal gutkha and pan masala, and other violations under the Food and Drug Administration. His remarks come as the FDA continues to intensify inspections aimed at ensuring safer food for consumers across the state.
