Government services go digital; online process eliminates long queues at offices

Citizens can now apply for Aadhaar cards, Voter ID cards, and Driving Licences online from the comfort of their homes, removing the need to stand in long queues at government offices. With just a mobile phone or computer and internet access, essential identity documents have become easier to obtain through digital platforms.

Aadhaar Card

To apply for an Aadhaar card:

  • Visit the official UIDAI website uidai.gov.in.
  • Go to the “Book Appointment” section and select the nearest Aadhaar centre.
  • Fill in your name, mobile number, and required details.
  • On the appointment day, visit the centre only for biometric and photo verification.
  • Later, you can download your e-Aadhaar online.

Driving Licence

To apply for a Driving Licence:

  • Go to the Transport Services portal parivahan.gov.in.
  • Select “Driving Licence Related Services” and choose your state.
  • Apply for a Learner’s Licence or New Driving Licence.
  • Fill out the form, upload documents, and book a test slot.
  • After clearing the driving test, the licence will be delivered to your home by post.

Voter ID Card

To apply for a Voter ID:

  • Visit the National Voters’ Service Portal nvsp.in or download the Voter Helpline App.
  • Choose “Apply Online for New Voter ID (Form 6)”.
  • Enter your name, address, date of birth, and family voter details.
  • Upload Aadhaar or another valid ID.
  • After verification, the Voter ID card will be sent to your registered address.

Officials said the move will save citizens’ time and simplify procedures by making essential services fully digital.
