Pune, September 17, 2025: The Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum (ANRCF) has strongly criticized both the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Traffic Police for failing to work in coordination while implementing traffic and infrastructure projects along Nagar Road.

Convenor Qaneez Sukhrani said that both agencies operate in isolation, ignoring citizens’ concerns and lacking a long-term vision. “This is precisely why we have been demanding an Integrated Masterplan. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) merely compiles data and makes projections for five years but does not provide real-time solutions,” she stated.

Residents have raised repeated objections to the “No Signal/Only U-Turn” plan introduced on Nagar Road, claiming it has created serious safety issues, especially for pedestrians. Despite submitting suggestions such as at-grade crossings, speed-breakers, rumblers, and wardens, citizens allege that the Traffic Police have failed to act responsibly.

PMC, while appointing a consultant for the Masterplan, continues to undertake piecemeal projects. On September 12, citizens noticed trenching for a grade separator at Shastrinagar in the absence of a finalized Masterplan. Earlier, on August 8 and September 8, petitions and complaints were filed by residents of Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar, and Nagar Road against unplanned works and ignored safety demands.

The forum has also demanded a joint stakeholder meeting with agencies including MSIDC, PMC’s Road and Project Departments, MahaMetro, and the Traffic Police. Key concerns include the proposed multi-tier flyover from Shirur to Phoenix Mall, pending road acquisitions, unresolved bottlenecks, and uncertainty over the permanence of U-turns introduced at multiple points.

Sukhrani emphasized that unless a coordinated and transparent approach is adopted, Nagar Road will continue to suffer from traffic congestion, unsafe road designs, and mismanaged urban planning. Citizens have even issued a legal notice in September 2024, urging PMC to engage a dedicated transport planner for an integrated mobility plan covering Nagar Road and its peripheral areas.
