Pune, September 27, 2025: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly opposed the 20% hike in examination fees announced by Savitribai Phule Pune University for the academic year 2025–26. The student organization has demanded immediate withdrawal of the hike, warning of a strong agitation if action is not taken within five days.

The university’s management council took the decision to increase the fees on September 24. The revised structure will further add to the already high charges for photocopies and revaluation of answer sheets, ABVP said.

In its memorandum to the Examination Director, ABVP stated, “Several districts in Maharashtra are currently facing severe floods and a wet drought situation. In such circumstances, this fee hike is unjust and burdensome for students from ordinary families. The decision is nothing short of pushing their educational future into darkness.”

ABVP Pune city minister Radhey Bahegavhankar declared that if the hike is not rolled back within five days, the organization will launch an intensified protest. Supporting the stance, ABVP’s state minister Atharva Kulkarni also termed the decision “unreasonable and unfair” and demanded its immediate cancellation for the current academic year.
