Bhopal, October 4, 2025 – Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have banned the sale and distribution of Coldrif Syrup after laboratory tests revealed it contained a highly toxic chemical linked to the deaths of children in Chhindwara district.

The Office of the Controller, Food and Drugs Administration, issued an urgent directive on Friday to all drug inspectors across the state against the product, which is manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceutical. The ban comes after a test report from the Drug Testing Laboratory in Chennai declared the syrup Not of Standard Quality, finding 48.6 percent by volume of Diethylene Glycol — a poisonous industrial chemical harmful to human health.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav confirmed the decision, saying: “The sale of this syrup has been banned across Madhya Pradesh. A ban is also being imposed on the sale of other products of the company that manufactures this syrup.” He added that the Tamil Nadu government was requested to investigate the factory in Kanchipuram where the syrup was produced, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
