Pune Airport to Celebrate Yatri Suvidha Diwas, Showcasing 12 Years of Passenger-Centric Growth and Transformation
Pune, June 14, 2026: Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Pune Airport will observe Yatri Suvidha Diwas on June 15, 2026, celebrating the remarkable transformation of Indian civil aviation and Pune Airport’s journey into one of India’s fastest-growing passenger-centric airports.
Ahead of the observance, Santosh Dhoke, Airport Director, Pune Airport, addressed the media and highlighted the airport’s achievements in passenger convenience, infrastructure development, digital innovation, sustainability and service excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhoke stated that the last 12 years have witnessed unprecedented growth in Indian aviation, driven by the vision of making air travel affordable, accessible, safe and seamless for all citizens. Pune Airport has played an important role in this transformation while supporting the rapid economic growth of Pune and Western Maharashtra.
A major milestone in Pune Airport’s modernization journey was the commissioning of the New Integrated Terminal Building in March 2025, which significantly enhanced passenger handling capacity and transformed the overall travel experience. The terminal combines modern infrastructure with architectural elements inspired by Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, creating a distinctive and welcoming gateway for travellers.
Over the last twelve years, Pune Airport has recorded remarkable growth. Passenger traffic has increased from approximately 4.46 million passengers in 2014 to more than 11.3 million passengers in 2026, while annual aircraft movements have grown from around 35,000 to nearly 69,000. Cargo operations have also expanded significantly, supporting the region’s thriving manufacturing, engineering, agricultural and export sectors.
The airport today offers enhanced passenger facilities including spacious check-in areas, expanded security screening zones, modern baggage handling systems, passenger boarding bridges, improved waiting lounges and a wide range of retail and dining options. These developments have substantially improved passenger comfort, convenience and operational efficiency.
Highlighting the role of technology in improving passenger experience, Dhoke said Pune Airport has successfully
implemented DigiYatra, enabling seamless, contactless and secure passenger processing. Digital initiatives and technology-enabled services continue to simplify airport procedures and reduce travel time.
Several passenger-friendly facilities have been introduced to further enrich the travel experience, including the Udan Yatri Café, which offers quality food and beverages at affordable prices, dedicated children’s play areas, improved accessibility infrastructure and enhanced passenger assistance services.
Pune Airport has also strengthened facilities for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and passengers requiring special assistance, reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity and universal accessibility.
The Airport Director noted that the growth of Pune Airport is closely linked with the emergence of Pune as a major centre for information technology, manufacturing, education, innovation and tourism. Enhanced air connectivity has facilitated trade, investment, tourism and employment generation while improving access to national and international markets.
On sustainability, Dhoke highlighted the airport’s commitment to environmentally responsible growth through initiatives such as energy conservation, waste management, reduction of single-use plastics, tree plantation drives and environmental awareness campaigns. Activities organized during Yatri Suvidha Diwas include plantation drives, sapling distribution, waste-to-art exhibitions and community outreach programmes.
As part of the celebrations, Pune Airport is also recognising the valuable contributions of women professionals across aviation sectors, including airport operations, airlines, security services, customs, fire services and other critical functions.
The airport has organised a variety of passenger engagement and community outreach activities, including aviation awareness programmes, educational interactions, health camps, blood donation drives, cultural performances, selfie points, gaming zones and Flybrary facilities.
“Yatri Suvidha Diwas is a celebration of our passengers, who remain at the heart of every initiative we undertake. Every infrastructure project, digital innovation and service enhancement at Pune Airport is guided by our commitment to delivering a safe, seamless and memorable travel experience. The journey from 4.46 million passengers in 2014 to over 11.3 million passengers today reflects the remarkable growth of both Pune Airport and Indian aviation,” Dhoke said.
He expressed gratitude to passengers, airline partners, stakeholders, government agencies, employees and members of the media for their continued support and contribution to Pune Airport’s success.
“As we celebrate Yatri Suvidha Diwas 2026, Pune Airport reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, operational excellence and passenger satisfaction while continuing its journey towards becoming one of India’s most admired and passenger-friendly airports,” he added.
