Pune: Citizens Raise Alarm Over Mounting Garbage And Encroachments On Fergusson College Road
Pune, October 8, 2025: The once-vibrant Fergusson College (FC) Road, known for its lively street food stalls, eateries, and shopping, is now drawing public criticism over poor waste management and encroachments. In recent weeks, residents and visitors have taken to social media to share images showing garbage scattered across the busy stretch, expressing frustration over the deteriorating civic conditions.
Several citizens have blamed both hawkers and their customers for the mess. They argue that the lack of discipline and civic sense has worsened the situation, despite repeated cleaning efforts by sanitation workers. One Meta user Amar Barve highlighted that garbage continues to pile up daily while sweepers struggle to keep the area clean.
Concerns over footpath encroachments have also resurfaced. Many users suggested that unauthorized hawkers should be removed to ensure free pedestrian movement and maintain cleanliness.
Meanwhile, some residents have criticized civic authorities for failing to maintain hygiene standards consistently, alleging poor monitoring and ineffective use of funds.
The growing outcry from citizens underscores the need for stronger waste management policies and coordinated action to restore FC Road’s iconic charm — once celebrated as one of Pune’s most lively and pedestrian-friendly destinations.
