Pepper Spray Panic on Sealdah Local: Woman Sparks Chaos Over Train Seat Dispute
Chaos unfolded on a local train at Sealdah station when a woman allegedly used pepper spray on fellow passengers during a dispute over seating. The dramatic incident was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, after Instagram user Amrita Sarkar shared the footage.
Sarkar described the event as deeply disturbing. The woman, dressed in a green kurti, reportedly began arguing with another passenger after failing to find a seat. Frustration quickly turned into aggression when she pulled out a can of pepper spray and tried to use it on the person she was arguing with.

When another commuter stepped in to calm things down, the woman grew even more agitated and sprayed the substance throughout the compartment. This caused several passengers to start coughing and experience burning sensations in their throats and noses. Two children reportedly began to feel unwell due to the fumes.
Fellow travellers eventually intervened, restrained the woman, and handed her over to the Government Railway Police (GRP). The viral clip shows her standing among a crowd, looking apologetic, while others recorded the confrontation.

Calling out the dangerous misuse of pepper spray, Sarkar stressed that such items are intended only for genuine self-defence situations. She also criticised the woman’s behaviour as extreme and reckless, pointing out that she showed no sign of guilt for her actions.
