Pune: Malpani Greens in Wakad Revives Bhondla Festival with Cultural Zeal
Pune, October 17, 2025: Residents of Malpani Greens Society, Wakad, recently celebrated the traditional Maharashtrian festival of Bhondla (Hadga) with great enthusiasm.
Women and young girls danced in circles around an elephant statue and the symbolic Bhulabai, singing folk songs and playing games like guessing the Kheerapat.

The event saw participation from all age groups, including senior citizens and residents from other states.
Prior to Bhondla, the society also organized a Navdurga storytelling session for over 30 children, with 10 days of training in voice modulation and narration.
Led by Snehal Sarda and supported by a team of residents, the celebration successfully blended tradition with modern touches, including customized songs referencing social media. “Such festivals are becoming rare in cities. We must adapt to new trends but never forget our roots,” said Sarda.
