Public display of heated dispute amid senior officials raises serious disciplinary concerns

A disturbing incident unfolded at a government employment fair in Nagpur when two senior female postal department officers engaged in a physical altercation over their seating and authority in front of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. A video capturing the dispute has since gone viral across social media.

According to reports, the dispute involved two officers log-jammed over the post of Postmaster General (PMG). After PMG Shobha Madhale was transferred on September 8 from Dharwad (Karnataka) to Nagpur, PMG Suchita Joshi from Navi Mumbai took charge. Madhale obtained a court stay against her transfer, consequently leading to a lingering power struggle between the two.

During the fair held Friday, both officers were seated on the same sofa on stage (as per protocol, Suchita Joshi was to take the seat). The conflict escalated when Madhale reportedly pushed Joshi’s hand, spilled a cup of water, and pinched Joshi’s left arm—all while the minister and other dignitaries watched. The episode is particularly alarming since it occurred at a high-profile public event with senior officials present.

Authorities are now reportedly investigating the conduct of both officers. Disciplinary action under service rules may follow given the seriousness of the behaviour at a formal government function.
