Following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ directive to build all roads in the PMRDA region using cement concrete, the authority prioritises infrastructure like roads, water supply, power, and drainage under its new structural plan.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has accelerated its infrastructure push under the newly finalised structural plan, prioritising key projects such as internal roads, water supply, electricity, and drainage systems. As part of the first phase, scrutiny of tenders for the construction of 248 kilometres of cement concrete (CC) roads is currently underway.

The initiative follows the cancellation of the earlier draft development plan (DP), after which PMRDA began implementing the new structural roadmap. The current tender process includes not only major highways but also essential connecting roads linking two or more villages, ensuring improved regional connectivity.

Previously, tenders had been invited for asphalt roads, but the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, directed that all future roads within the PMRDA jurisdiction should be of cement concrete construction. In response, the earlier tenders were scrapped and new ones have been issued according to updated technical standards.

The plan includes widening of roads and developing new routes in rapidly growing industrial and urban areas such as Hinjawadi, Chakan, Maan, and Talegaon, where traffic congestion has become a major concern. The proposed ring road, national highway linkages, and land acquisition proposals have already been forwarded to the district administration for approval.

Once executed, these projects are expected to significantly boost urban mobility and regional development within the PMRDA area. The authority is also awaiting the appointment of a dedicated officer by the state government to oversee the large-scale project.

Some development works had come to a standstill after the layout plan was annulled, requiring a complete reworking of project designs. However, with the new structural plan now finalised, PMRDA has moved swiftly to resume on-ground implementation, signalling renewed momentum in the region’s infrastructure growth.
