Mumbai, November 4, 2025 — The long wait for Maharashtra’s local body elections is finally over. The State Election Commission (SEC) is set to announce the election schedule today at 4 PM during a press conference to be addressed by State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare.

According to reports, the first phase will likely include municipality and nagar panchayat elections, while the subsequent phases will cover district councils (Zilla Parishads)panchayat samitis, and municipal corporations.

After years of delay due to issues like ward restructuring and OBC reservation, the election process has now been cleared. In the first round, polls are expected for 246 municipalities and 42 nagar panchayats across the state.

The SEC plans to conduct local body elections in three phases — municipalities and nagar panchayats first, followed by district councils and panchayat samitis, and finally, municipal corporations.

Voting for municipalities and nagar panchayats is expected in November, while district and panchayat samiti elections may take place in December. The municipal corporation polls, including those in Mumbai and 28 other cities, are likely to be held between January 15 and 20, 2026.

The Supreme Court has set January 31, 2026, as the deadline for completing all local body elections in Maharashtra.
