Pune, November 6, 2025: Residents of Mohamadwadi are raising urgent concerns over the deteriorating civic infrastructure in the area, warning that continued neglect is causing daily hardships and increasing traffic congestion. Locals say that despite repeated complaints to authorities, critical issues remain unresolved, leaving the community frustrated and exasperated.

One of the primary concerns is traffic congestion, which worsens every Thursday during the weekly market. Narrow roads and encroachments at key junctions, particularly Mohamadwadi Chowk, obstruct smooth traffic flow. Residents emphasize the need to enforce the 24-meter wide Development Plan (DP) road and remove illegal encroachments that have gradually eaten into public space.

A resident of Nyati Estate complained that earlier traffic congestion used to happen only on weekends now it’s an everyday headache. Getting out of our society is also a nightmare.

Road conditions across Mohamadwadi are another major problem. Several stretches, including Nyati Estate to Country Club, Mohamadwadi Village to Krishna Nagar, and Dhruv School Road, are in urgent need of resurfacing. Potholes, uneven surfaces, and poor drainage are creating safety hazards for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Areas near Delhi Public School and Ababil Plaza are particularly troublesome, as waterlogging occurs during rains and the roads become uneven, increasing the risk of accidents.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Ravi Khandare, assistant municipal commissioner he assured to take action over the illegal activities.

Footpaths in the area also demand attention. Residents stress that the footpath outside Nyati Garden and opposite Nyati Estate needs immediate reconstruction to ensure pedestrian safety. Currently, uneven or broken pavements force pedestrians onto the road, compounding the traffic woes.

Community members argue that these are not large-scale infrastructural projects but relatively small improvements that could significantly ease daily difficulties if executed with urgency. “We have been approaching the authorities for years, but nothing is being done with the necessary seriousness,” said one resident.

With Mohamadwadi rapidly developing, residents warn that if these civic issues are not addressed aggressively, the area will face worsening traffic chaos, safety hazards, and declining quality of life. They urge the Pune Municipal Corporation and local authorities to take immediate action, remove encroachments, repair roads, and upgrade pedestrian pathways to restore order and ensure the safety of all who live and travel in the area.
