Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has initiated an aggressive recovery campaign across the Pune circle to collect ₹436 crore in unpaid electricity bills from over 8.44 lakh defaulting consumers. The drive, which resumed after the festive slowdown during Dussehra and Diwali, began in full force this November.

According to official data, the Pune circle caters to more than 38 lakh consumers, of which 8,44,381 have pending dues amounting to ₹436.49 crore as of November 6. To accelerate recovery, MSEDCL has deployed sub-division-wise teams and set collection targets for each staff member.

During the festive season, MSEDCL avoided disconnecting power supply to defaulters but urged them to clear dues. However, with payments still pending, the utility has now intensified disconnection drives for non-payment. Consumers have been urged to pay both past arrears and current bills to avoid penalties.

Division-wise, the Pune Rural Division tops the list with 2,76,943 defaulters owing ₹262 crore. The Ganeshkhind City Division has 2,74,306 consumers with ₹90.44 crore pending, while the Rasta Peth City Division records 2,93,132 defaulters with ₹84.03 crore outstanding.

Category-wise arrears include ₹162.61 crore from household consumers, ₹64.17 crore from commercial users, ₹27.41 crore from low-tension industries, ₹92.65 crore from streetlight connections, ₹78.69 crore from water supply accounts, ₹9.75 crore from public service consumers, and ₹1.18 crore under miscellaneous categories.

Sunil Kakde, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL’s Pune division, said, “Defaulting consumers are being urged to clear their dues immediately, as disconnection will follow non-payment. Reconnection charges are ₹310 for single-phase and ₹520 for three-phase connections. To avoid inconvenience, consumers can pay through multiple options — QR code on bills, the Mahavitaran mobile app, or the official website www.mahadiscom.in.”
