Pune: A Pune-based lawyer and social media influencer named Urmi has sparked controversy on social media after her post during the Bihar elections went viral, drawing serious allegations from the Congress party.

Urmi, who describes herself on X (formerly Twitter) as a lawyer, voice-over artist, and creative professional, recently shared a selfie showing the voting ink on her finger with the caption, “Voted for a Modi-fied India. Jaai ke vote daali, Bihar.” This roughly translates to, “Voted for a Modi-led India. People of Bihar, go and vote.”

Following this post, Congress and RJD leaders alleged that Urmi had already voted in Maharashtra during previous elections and was now claiming to have voted again in Bihar — accusing the BJP of manipulating the system to secure extra votes. Congress social media coordinator Reshma Alam sarcastically wrote, “Multi-state voting is the new startup. Investor: BJP. Product: Fake mandate.”

RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti also commented, “Madam voted in Maharashtra in 2024 and in Bihar in 2025! These people are openly keeping the system in their pockets.”

In response to the growing criticism, Urmi clarified that she never voted in Bihar and that her post was only meant to encourage citizens there to participate in the elections. She stated, “I said ‘I voted,’ but I didn’t mean I voted today. Everyone knows I voted in Maharashtra. Bihar, calm down! It’s your turn now.”

The post has reignited the ongoing war of words between the Congress and BJP over alleged vote manipulation. While Congress supporters cite Urmi’s post as “proof” of malpractice, BJP supporters have dismissed it as an overreaction blown out of proportion on social media.
