Pune Municipal Corporation And Traffic Police Launch Joint Drive To Remove Abandoned Vehicles From City Roads
Pune, November 11, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the city police have intensified their campaign to remove abandoned vehicles that are occupying public spaces and obstructing traffic.
Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has issued strict orders to implement measures for the disposal of such vehicles. He emphasized that abandoned vehicles not only eat up valuable public space but also contribute to traffic congestion, parking shortages, and inconvenience for pedestrians.
“These abandoned vehicles take up public space, cause traffic jams, and create problems for citizens. We are committed to clearing them off the streets,” said Ram.
A coordinated action plan has been prepared by the PMC along with Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil to identify and remove such vehicles. As per the plan, notices will be pasted on vehicles, giving owners 48 hours to claim them. Unclaimed vehicles will then be towed to designated areas and disposed of as per government norms.
Commissioner Ram estimated that around two to three lakh vehicles are parked or dumped along Pune’s roadsides.
Police official Manoj Patil added, “Although the removal of abandoned vehicles is a routine drive, it will now be intensified with the help of PMC. Citizens can also report such vehicles using the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) app.”
Residents have welcomed the move, saying it was much needed.
