Pune, November 11, 2025: A 28-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in Viman Nagar after he lost control of his motorcycle, allegedly frightened by the deafening horn of a dumper. The vehicle ran over him, killing him instantly, while the dumper driver fled the scene. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding driver.
The deceased has been identified as Sachin Vasant Dhumal (28), a resident of Malharnagar, Vadgaonsheri. His friend, Swapnil Bhanudas Mane (25) of Somnathnagar, Vadgaonsheri—originally from Rawargaon, Selu, Parbhani—sustained injuries in the accident and has filed a complaint at the Airport Police Station.
According to police, the incident occurred around midnight on Saturday. Sachin and Swapnil, who both worked as sales officers for a reputed finance company in Viman Nagar, were riding toward Kharadi Bypass on a two-wheeler. When they reached Tata Garden Chowk, the dumper driver behind them sounded a shrill, continuous horn, startling Sachin and causing him to lose control of the bike. Both men fell onto the road, and the speeding dumper ran over Sachin’s head.
Swapnil, though injured, tried to help his friend but received no response. Police arrived at the scene and rushed Sachin to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the dumper driver escaped without stopping. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its driver. A case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligent driving causing death and under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The investigation is being led by Assistant Inspector Sameer Karpe of the Airport Police Station.
