A heart-wrenching road tragedy has shaken Jalgaon district. A woman lost her life in a horrific accident after a Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV suddenly caught fire following a tire burst near Wakod village on the Jalgaon–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Highway. The incident took place on Monday afternoon, leaving the vehicle reduced to ashes and the local community in deep sorrow.
According to the initial reports, the Grand Vitara was heading towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar when one of its tires suddenly burst near Pimpalgaon Phata. The driver lost control of the speeding SUV, which veered off course and crashed violently on the roadside. The impact was so powerful that the front portion of the car was completely smashed. Within moments of the collision, the vehicle caught fire and flames rapidly engulfed it.
Witnesses nearby rushed to the spot in panic. Locals quickly broke the car window and managed to pull the driver out safely. However, the woman traveling with him was trapped inside. Due to thick smoke and intense heat, she could not be located in time. By the time the driver regained his senses and informed rescuers that a woman was still in the car, the fire had grown uncontrollable. Tragically, she was burnt alive inside the vehicle, leaving behind only ashes.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, local social worker Vishal Joshi reached the site with the help of Pahur Police, Highway Police, the RTO team, Wakod village police patil, and several villagers. A water tanker from Wakod was immediately called to control the blaze, and the Jamner fire brigade also arrived shortly after. Despite their combined efforts, the fire had already destroyed the car completely, and nothing could be done to save the woman.
Her identity has not yet been confirmed, and the charred remains have been sent to a government hospital for further examination. Meanwhile, the injured driver is being treated at a nearby hospital and is reported to be out of danger. The accident caused major traffic disruption on the Jalgaon–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Highway for some time, as police set up special arrangements to divert vehicles and clear the road.
