The shocking murder unfolded inside a moving SUV in Pimpri-Chinchwad, leaving residents stunned and police racing to track down two absconding suspects.

Pune was jolted on Wednesday evening after a man was shot dead inside a Toyota Fortuner by his own friends, turning what began as a casual conversation into one of the city’s most disturbing crime scenes in recent months. The killing took place near Shri Sai Road Carrier on Alankapuram 90 Feet Road in Charholi around 6 PM.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Nitin Gilbile from Wadmukhwadi. According to the complaint filed by his brother, Sachin Gilbile, Nitin had been sitting in the SUV with two friends  identified as Amit Jeevan Pathare (35) of Charholi and Vikrant Thakur of Khed, when an argument over personal issues spiralled into violence.

Investigators said the three were initially chatting in the parked Fortuner when tempers escalated. Nitin briefly stepped out during the heated exchange, only to re-enter the front passenger seat moments later. At that point, one of the accused allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired directly at his head from close range, killing him instantly.

The brutality did not end there. CCTV footage now circulating locally shows Nitin’s body being dragged out of the car, his legs caught between the door and the frame. The accused then fled the spot, running the SUV over his body as they escaped.

Police teams from Dighi Police Station and the Crime Branch rushed to the crime site, where they recovered the body and began analysing the chilling surveillance footage. Officers have invoked BNS sections 103 and 3(5), along with provisions of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act.

Senior officials said that five police teams have been formed to track down the two accused, both of whom remain absconding. Preliminary investigation suggests that a long-standing personal dispute within the friend group may have triggered the murder, though the exact motive is still being probed.

The cold-blooded killing, carried out in broad daylight on a busy road, has triggered shock and fear in the Charholi–Pimpri-Chinchwad region. Police expect arrests soon as the manhunt intensifies.
