The Prime Minister reviewed progress of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project with a sharp focus on safety, quality and timelines.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a detailed inspection of India’s first bullet train station at Antroli in Surat on Saturday morning, spending about 35 minutes reviewing the progress of what he has often called his dream infrastructure project. The station is part of the 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, which will have a total of 12 stations. According to officials, the entire project is targeted for completion by 2028.
Modi arrived at Surat airport at 9:20am, flew by helicopter to the site and immediately began a high-level review. Sitting on a chair amid engineers and senior officers, he asked clear, direct questions on whether the work was moving at the required pace, if the project was adhering to its original timelines and whether teams were facing any difficulties. Officials assured him that construction is progressing smoothly and is on schedule.
During the visit, the PM examined the station structure, platform alignment, civil engineering progress and ongoing electrical work. He urged the project teams to document their on-ground experiences, saying such records would support future national infrastructure efforts.

A special track inspection machine — designed to resemble the upcoming bullet train — was brought in for the visit. Equipped with modern interiors, large windows and a full control panel, the machine gave the Prime Minister a real-time experience of the developing high-speed rail ecosystem. Modi took a ride in it to review the track quality and assess the readiness of critical systems.
After PM’s departure, NHSRCL (National High Speed Rail Corporation) and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav himself, despite being with PM Modi, provided inspection-related updates 24 hours later.
Although media access was restricted for security reasons and no images were released during the visit, the NHSRCL and Railway Ministry shared official photographs and updates 24 hours later.
Officials highlighted that 326 km of the elevated corridor has already been completed. The Surat–Bilimora stretch is now in its final phase and is among the fastest-moving sections of the corridor, where trial runs are expected to begin soon.
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project marks a major leap in India’s railway modernization efforts, and Surat is set to play a pivotal role in the early stages of high-speed rail operations. According to local administration, the PM’s review was focused on reinforcing safety standards, ensuring timely execution and maintaining uncompromising construction quality as India prepares for its first bullet train era.
