The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a crucial update detailing the comprehensive assessment framework for the upcoming 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. This includes a precise distribution of marks for theory, practicals, projects, and internal assessments across all subjects, providing clear guidance for both students and schools ahead of the exam season.
Practical Examinations Scheduled from January 1 to February 14, 2026
According to the circular released on Tuesday, practical exams, project evaluations, and internal assessments for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted from January 1 to February 14, 2026. The board has emphasized strict adherence to deadlines and procedural guidelines while submitting marks, warning schools that requests for corrections after submission, often accompanied by excuses, will not be entertained.
Subject-Wise Marking Scheme Now Available
CBSE has published detailed subject-wise marking schemes for all Class 10 and 12 subjects, which can be accessed through separate notices on the official website, cbse.gov.in. The annexure provides:
Subject codes and names
Maximum marks allocated for theory, practical, projects, and internal assessment
Indication of whether an external examiner is required
Information on whether CBSE will supply practical answer books
Specifications for theory answer books, including page numbers
Schools Advised to Follow Guidelines Meticulously
To ensure uniformity across the country, CBSE has asked all affiliated schools to thoroughly review the circular and annexures before starting any assessment process. The board reiterated that instructions must be strictly followed as no last-minute changes or correction requests will be entertained.
Each Subject Carries a Total of 100 Marks
Every subject in both Class 10 and 12 exams will have a total of 100 marks, divided among theory, practicals, project work, and internal assessment. The weightage of each component varies depending on the subject, and this has been clearly outlined in the annexures to avoid any confusion.
