Maharashtra Sets the Stage for a Statewide Expressway Network Linking Every Corner of the State
Maharashtra is preparing for one of its biggest connectivity transformations as the state works toward creating a complete Expressway Grid. This network will link distant corners of the state through fast, modern highways, making long journeys smoother and opening new possibilities for development. With the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway already in operation, and new routes like the Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway and the Mumbai–Goa Konkan Expressway progressing steadily, Maharashtra is laying the foundation for a travel system that connects all major regions with greater ease.
The vision behind the Expressway Grid is to reduce travel time, improve access to remote districts and encourage economic activity in areas that have long remained underserved.
Shaktipeeth Expressway Making Steady Progress
Work on the Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway is moving forward at a strong pace.
Land acquisition activities have begun at the administrative level, and joint land measurement is already about 70 percent completed.
The remaining survey work is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.

This route will serve as an important link between central Maharashtra and the coastal belt, adding a crucial stretch to the state’s growing expressway network.
Konkan Expressway Nearing the Next Stage
The Mumbai–Goa Konkan Expressway is also advancing through two important developments at the same time.
MSRDC has completed the revised Detailed Project Report, which is now awaiting the final approval of the state government. Once approval is granted, land acquisition will begin without delay.
In parallel, construction on the larger 498 km Konkan corridor has reached nearly 95 percent completion. The main expressway covers 376 km along the coastline and is supported by 120 km of connecting roads. The project passes through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, covering 232 villages across 17 talukas. The estimated project cost is about ₹68,000 crore.
The Konkan Expressway is designed as a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway and includes several major structures such as
41 tunnels
21 major bridges
51 viaducts
When completely open for travel, the expressway is expected to reduce the Mumbai–Goa road journey from around 12 hours to just six hours. The improved connectivity is likely to boost tourism, create employment and support local businesses throughout the coastal region. This expressway will form a major part of the wider Expressway Grid.
With the Samruddhi Expressway already active and the Shaktipeeth and Konkan expressways advancing strongly, Maharashtra is moving closer to becoming the first state with an interconnected expressway network. This planned grid will provide better links between far-off regions, strengthen transportation systems and help new economic opportunities reach all parts of the state.
