Pune: Seven-Year-Old Dies in Balewadi Hit-and-Run; Brother and Grandfather Injured as Police Intensify Search for Driver
Balewadi, 20 November 2025: A seven-year-old boy died in a tragic hit-and-run in Balewadi on Wednesday, leaving the neighbourhood shaken. The tempo involved in the crash hit the family while they were walking along the roadside, according to the initial police report.
The child, Anurag Chandmare, succumbed to his injuries. His five-year-old brother, Abhinav, and their grandfather, Bandu Wawalkar, were injured and are undergoing treatment. The family was reportedly on their way back from a nearby shop when the speeding tempo struck them.
The driver fled immediately after the accident. Bavdhan Police filed a case late Wednesday night and have formed teams to trace the absconding driver. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and officers are checking nearby routes where the tempo may have escaped. Police said the vehicle has been identified, and efforts are underway to locate both the driver and the owner.
Residents in the area have raised concerns about frequent speeding on this stretch and are demanding stricter enforcement to prevent further incidents.
