Mahabaleshwar Shivers at 11°C as Strong Winds Deepen the Winter Chill
Pune Minimum Temperature Falls to 7.7°C, Dips into Single Digits; City Feels Winter Chill
The popular hill station of Mahabaleshwar is experiencing a notable dip in temperatures, making the winter chill more pronounced. Along with the falling mercury, strong gusty winds have added to the biting cold, leaving both residents and visitors shivering. In Mahabaleshwar and nearby Panchgani, the minimum temperature has been recorded at 11°C, and locals anticipate that the mercury could drop even further in the coming days. The cold is particularly intense in the surrounding fields compared to urban areas.
In Mahabaleshwar, areas around Venna Lake and Lingmala are feeling the chill more acutely. To cope with the drop in temperature, roadside eateries and hotels have started lighting fires outdoors, offering warmth to visitors and passersby. Tourists are also increasingly buying warm clothes to counter the cold.
Over the past few days, temperatures across Mahabaleshwar have been steadily falling, affecting daily life for those living in and around the town. Minimum temperatures have touched 11°C, while daytime readings range between 16°C and 21°C, keeping the days uncomfortably cool. Some popular spots, including Venna Lake and Lingmala, report even lower temperatures, although the absence of formal weather monitoring in these areas makes exact records difficult.
Despite the chill, both locals and tourists continue to enjoy the scenic beauty, often wrapped in sweaters, shawls, and caps. Many homes maintain warmth by lighting fires indoors, while tourists enjoy hot snacks such as corn cobs, tea, and fried treats. The nearby town of Wai has also felt the cold, with temperatures dropping to 12°C. In Satara and the Kas Plateau, readings have fallen to 12°C and 11°C respectively, further amplified by gusty winds.
Since the second week of November, the region has witnessed a gradual decrease in temperature. Combined with the persistent winds, the cold has intensified, leaving many struggling to stay warm. Medical experts have advised the elderly, young children, and people with respiratory conditions to take precautions. Even though winter waves are a seasonal phenomenon, the chill has arrived unusually fast this year, prompting the need for warm clothing and blankets to stay protected.
