Pune Police Bust Interstate Arms Racket, 36 Detained In Madhya Pradesh
Pune, November 22, 2025 – In a significant victory against organized crime, a special team from DCP Zone 4 and Crime branch has dismantled a major inter-state illegal arms trafficking racket. The coordinated effort resulted in the custody and enquiry of 36 individuals and the seizure of 21 firearms and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
Key Arrests and Initial Seizure
The initial breakthrough came with the seizure of 21 illegal firearms and ammunition, leading to the arrest of accused individuals in different parts of the city. Various actions by various teams resulted in the recovery of 21 firearms from the city in the past three weeks.
Vimantal PS – 11 firearms
AEC 1 – 2 firearms
AEC 2 – 3 firearms
Unti 3 – 1 firearm
Kalepadal PS – 4 firearms
In total 21 firearms were recovered from different parts of the city.

This success was registered under Vimantal CR No. 558/2025, charging the accused under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 3(25) of the Arms Act, along with Sections 142, 37(1), and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Dawn Raid on Manufacturing Hub
Acting on information gathered during the investigation, a high-stakes, early-morning operation was launched at Umarti Village in Madhya Pradesh, led by a team under DCP Somay Munde.
This crucial raid targeted the source of the illegal weapons, yielding the following results:
- 36 suspected individuals involved in the manufacturing of illegal firearms were detained.
- A significant number of additional weapons and weapons parts were seized.
- 50 furnaces used for the moulding and manufacturing of illegal weapons were destroyed on site.
- Weapon embossing material was recovered, indicating the sophisticated nature of the operation.
- Further evidence and material are still being processed.
Operation Details and Deployment
The success of the complex, inter-state operation was attributed to meticulous planning and a heavily armed, multi-agency deployment.
The joint team comprised of:
- Led by DCP Zone 4 Somay Munde
- Pune Crime Branch Unit 6 PI Pathan and other Officers from Zone 4
- 20 APIs/PSIs
- 50 Men of Zone 4 and the Crime Branch
- 1 Gas Gun section of Police Headquarter Pune
- The wireless and CCTV team of Pune City Police
To ensure the safety of personnel and the success of the mission, Special Quick Response Team (QRT) hit teams with adequate firepower were also deployed.
The operation also leveraged significant technical support, including Mobile Surveillance Vehicles, a temporary Wireless network, Bullet Proof (BP) Jackets, and Body Worn Cameras.
The interrogation of the accused and the technical evidence points had pointed towards presence of large-scale arms manufacturing and trafficking racket operating under the brand name of “Umarati Shikalgar Arms” or “USA” in short, originating from the said village. The information had also revealed that their supply chain extended to *Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh.* Further investigation is going on in this matter.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to trace the full supply chain and the ultimate recipients of the illegal weaponry. The exact number of accused being arrested is yet undisclosed and action will be taken depending on their role and evidences in crime.
