Legendary actor Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most beloved and enduring stars, passed away on November 24 at his Mumbai residence, marking a sombre day for Bollywood and millions of his admirers. The veteran performer, who had recently returned home to his Juhu house after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, breathed his last surrounded by his family. Because of the confusion created by a false death alarm just days earlier, the Deol family chose to conduct his final rites quietly and without prior public announcement to avoid any disturbance.
As his mortal remains were taken for cremation, the atmosphere at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu was filled with grief. Esha Deol was seen overcome with emotion, breaking down as people approached to offer their condolences. Hema Malini, with folded hands, received visitors while the Deol family stood united in their moment of loss.
Although fans were unable to catch a final glimpse of the beloved actor, several well-known personalities from the film industry arrived to pay homage. Amitabh Bachchan, accompanied by Abhishek Bachchan and Agastya Nanda, was among the earliest to reach the crematorium. Soon after, other leading stars including Salman Khan, Salim Khan, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were also spotted offering their respects.
Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were later seen leaving the crematorium after attending the final rituals. Tributes continued to pour in across social media, with colleagues and fans remembering the “Chupke Chupke” star through heartfelt messages and personal memories.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a touching note, stating, “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, also paid tribute, writing on X, “The demise of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Shri Dharmendra Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. One of the most popular actors, he delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long illustrious career. As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers.”
Dharmendra’s departure closes a cherished chapter in Indian film history, but the warmth he radiated—on screen and off—ensures that his legacy will live on through every role, every memory and every heart he touched.
