Pune: PMC Clears Encroachments Near Mitra Mandal Chowk, Ahead Of Pune Grand Tour 2026
Pune, December 8, 2025: Ahead of the prestigious Pune Grand Tour 2026, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a large-scale encroachment removal drive along the designated cycling corridor in the city. The action was carried out on the stretch from Maitra Mandal Chowk to Mukundnagar and further towards Seven Loves Chowk, one of the primary routes expected to be used during the event.
PMC officials stated that the front margins along the route had been heavily encroached, obstructing the smooth flow of cyclists and posing safety concerns. To ensure a seamless and hazard-free passage for participants, the corporation deployed teams to clear illegal structures, temporary sheds, platforms and other obstructions.
The civic body emphasised that the Pune Grand Tour will draw national and international cyclists, making it essential to upgrade and secure all road stretches included in the event map. The Mukundnagar stretch, being a crucial connector, was prioritised in the first phase of the cleanup operation.
Local residents observed a strong PMC presence throughout the morning as personnel used machinery to dismantle encroachments. Traffic police were also deployed to manage diversions and maintain safety during the operation.
The PMC confirmed that similar drives will continue across other parts of the cycling route in the coming weeks to ensure Pune is fully prepared to host the 2026 tour.
