Pune: Liquor Bottle Found In Car Heading To Sinhagad Fort; Authorities Raise Concern Over Repeated Violations
Pune, December 8, 2025: A disturbing incident has once again surfaced at the historic Sinhagad Fort, a symbol of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s bravery. For the second time in just 21 days, security personnel have recovered a liquor bottle from a vehicle attempting to enter the fort premises, despite a strict ban on alcohol, smoking and non-vegetarian food in the protected area.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening between 4:30 pm and 4:45 pm, when a car registered under the Mumbai RTO was stopped for routine checking at the Golivadi forest checkpost. While collecting disturbance fees, the Sinhagad Conservation Committee’s security staff asked the occupants if they were carrying alcohol. They denied possessing any liquor and only handed over cigarettes when questioned about smoking materials.
However, the behaviour of the four passengers raised suspicion, prompting guards to conduct a more thorough inspection. During the search, a large liquor bottle was found hidden under the seat. The individuals were immediately fined for violating the rules.
Sinhagad Fort falls under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department and is a protected site governed by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums. Strict restrictions are enforced to preserve the sanctity and heritage of the fort.
