Pune, December 9, 2025: Pune has recorded a surge in citizen-driven traffic monitoring, with over 1.11 lakh traffic violations reported through the Pune Traffic Police’s PTP (Traffic Cop) mobile application in the last six months.

These complaints, submitted by alert residents across the city, resulted in the issuance of 83,785 challans to offending vehicle owners.

The violations reported include corner parking, double parking, fancy number plates, footpath driving and parking, triple-seat riding, talking on mobile phones while driving, tinted glass, heavy vehicles entering red-zone areas, and wrong-side driving — the most frequently flagged offence.

Officials noted that the increasing number of complaints highlights a positive shift in public awareness and citizen involvement in maintaining road discipline. They added that several violations, particularly obstructive parking and risky driving behaviour, are difficult to track solely through routine patrols, making community inputs essential for targeted enforcement.

The PTP App has witnessed steady growth in usage as residents actively share real-time photographs of violations. Citizen participation plays a crucial role in improving traffic management. After verification of the images received, appropriate action and challans are issued.

Breakdown of Challans Issued:

  • Wrong-side driving: 18,330
  • Footpath parking: 19,061
  • Corner parking: 14,715
