Pune, Maharashtra: A 16-year-old boy was killed after he was allegedly attacked with a knife by a classmate inside a classroom at a private coaching centre in Pune district on Monday, police officials said. The shocking incident took place in Rajgurunagar, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to the police, both the victim and the accused were Class 10 students enrolled at the same coaching centre. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was the result of a previous dispute between the two boys.
An official from the Khed police station said the accused student suddenly attacked his classmate with a knife during class hours on Monday morning. “The injured boy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” the official confirmed.
Police have initiated the process to detain the accused juvenile and are following the procedures laid down under the Juvenile Justice Act. Senior officials have also visited the coaching centre as part of the investigation.
“A primary probe indicates there was an ongoing dispute between the two students. We are investigating the exact reason and circumstances that led to the attack,” the police official added.
Further investigation is underway, and statements from staff members and students present at the time of the incident are being recorded. Security measures at private coaching centres in the area are also likely to come under scrutiny following the incident.
