Viral video sparks outrage as actress faces harassment at crowded promotion event; Chinmayi Sripada calls out crowd behaviour

Actress Nidhhi Agerwal was allegedly harassed during the song launch event of her upcoming Telugu film The Raja Saab at Hyderabad’s Lulu Mall, prompting the police to register a case and begin an investigation into the incident. A video showing the actress being mobbed by an aggressive crowd has since gone viral, triggering widespread concern over crowd management and the safety of women at public promotional events.

The incident occurred during the launch of the song “Sahana Sahana..” from The Raja Saab, which stars Prabhas in the lead role. Nidhhi Agerwal attended the event along with the film’s director Maruthi. According to eyewitness accounts, a much larger crowd than anticipated gathered at the mall, with fans rushing towards the actress to click photographs and get closer to her.

As the crowd surged, several individuals allegedly crossed personal boundaries and misbehaved with the actress. Despite the presence of bouncers and security personnel, the situation quickly escalated. Visuals circulating online show Nidhhi surrounded by people, struggling to move, while her bodyguards attempt to shield her and escort her to her vehicle.

Those present at the venue said the security staff appeared overwhelmed by the size and intensity of the crowd. By the time Nidhhi was taken to her car, the guards were visibly exhausted. The actress was seen getting into the vehicle visibly distressed and angry, with some reports stating that her outfit was dishevelled during the chaos. After being seated in the car, she appeared shaken as she tried to regain composure.

Following the incident, a police complaint was filed and a case has been registered. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify those involved and to examine lapses in crowd control and event management. The event was held at a private mall, and responsibility for security arrangements is also being examined as part of the probe.

The incident has drawn sharp reactions from across the film industry. Singer and activist Chinmayi Sripada strongly condemned the behaviour seen in the viral video. Taking to X, she wrote, “Pack of men behaving worse than hyenas. Actually, why insult hyenas? Put ‘likeminded’ men together in a mob, and they will harass a woman like this. Why doesn’t some god take them all away and put them on a different planet?” Her remarks were widely shared and added to the growing outrage over the incident.

Many social media users echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that such behaviour cannot be justified in the name of fandom. Several comments stressed that genuine fans do not harass artists and that such incidents reflect deeper issues related to entitlement, lack of accountability, and poor crowd regulation at public events.

Nidhhi Agerwal, who was born in Andhra Pradesh and educated in Bengaluru, made her film debut in 2017 and rose to prominence with iSmart Shankar. She is currently one of the female leads in The Raja Saab, one of the most anticipated films due to Prabhas’ involvement.

The episode has reignited discussions around the safety of actors, especially women, during large-scale promotional events. Industry voices and fans alike are calling for stricter protocols, better planning, and zero tolerance for misconduct to ensure that promotional platforms do not turn into spaces of fear and humiliation.
