Pune, January 5, 2026: A major fire broke out in a residential flat located on the eighth floor of a ground-plus-11-storey building Viva Hallmark Society on Monday afternoon. According to fire brigade officials, the fire call was received at 1:40 pm, and the fire tender reached the society gate at 2:56 pm.

The fire was reported in Flat No. 802, where flames had spread extensively by the time the fire brigade team arrived. The operation was led by In-charge Officer Sunil Name, along with Tandel Chandrakant Gawade and driver Datta Gogawale. Fire personnel Pandharinath Ubhe, Shivkumar Mane, Shridhar Yadav, Manoj Gaikwad, Ramesh Thopte and Rakesh Naiknavare were part of the rescue and firefighting team.

Firefighters carried the hose reel to the eighth floor using ropes and sprayed water through both the main door and windows to bring the blaze under control. The fire was completely extinguished after sustained efforts by the team.

The incident caused significant damage to the flat’s interior, including the hall furnishings, electrical wiring, television, sofa, cupboards and books in the study room, beds and window glass panes. Due to heavy smoke, paint damage was reported in two additional rooms and the kitchen. Minor damage was also reported in Flat on 9th floor after window panes shattered and heat from the fire affected the study room.

No injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident. During the inspection, it was observed that the society’s firefighting system was non-functional, and residents were instructed to ensure that it is made operational immediately. A fire tender from Baner was also dispatched for assistance but was asked to return after the fire was brought under control. After completing the operation, the fire brigade team returned to the fire station.
