Man Quits Corporate Job to Drive an Auto-Rickshaw; Reason Behind the Bold Choice Is Relatable
Burnt out by toxic work culture, a former corporate professional chooses dignity, peace, and independence over a high-paying title.
A man’s decision to quit his corporate job and start driving an auto-rickshaw has gone viral on social media, sparking conversations around toxic work culture, mental health, and the true meaning of success.
The story, shared widely online, follows Rakesh, an educated and English-speaking professional who spent over a decade working in the corporate sector. On paper, his life looked stable—steady income, fixed working hours, and time with family. Behind closed doors, however, he was battling constant pressure, office politics, and humiliation that slowly eroded his self-worth.
Rakesh tried switching companies, hoping a change in workplace would ease the stress. Instead, he encountered the same patterns again. Eventually, the emotional toll became unbearable, and he resigned—choosing mental survival over professional security.
What followed was far from easy. With no job and mounting responsibilities, Rakesh slipped into depression and spent months bedridden. As savings dried up, he took up whatever honest work he could find, from cleaning gym floors to delivering food. He later said these jobs taught him the value of dignity in labour and helped him rebuild discipline and confidence.
With careful saving and determination, Rakesh eventually bought an auto-rickshaw on EMI. For him, driving the auto was not a fallback but a conscious decision to regain control over his life. “This is not majburi,” he says in one of his viral videos. “This is my way out of majburi.”

Passengers are often surprised to hear their auto driver speak fluent English and discuss books, life, and burnout. Many tell him he “belongs in a corporate office,” a comment he now takes with a smile. Between rides, Rakesh began posting short, light-hearted videos online. Several went viral, and his journey resonated with countless viewers who saw their own silent struggles reflected in his story.
Today, Rakesh earns modestly but lives with peace and autonomy. Supported by his mother and daughter, he says he has found something the corporate world never gave him—freedom.
His story has become a reminder that success is not always defined by a designation or salary, but by the courage to choose mental well-being, self-respect, and a life that feels truly one’s own.
