Pune, January 12, 2026: Pune witnessed a tragic incident in the Kharadi area on Thursday night when a late-evening drinking session ended in the death of a 23-year-old man following a violent clash with a close friend.
The incident took place at around 9.15 pm near Sweet India Chowk. The deceased has been identified as Akash Tarale (23), a resident of Khandvenagar. Police have arrested the accused, Vijay Sanjay Waghmare (23), also known as Vijay alias Jalwa, who stays in Rajaram Patil Nagar, Kharadi.
According to the complaint lodged by their friend Amit Bhosale, the trio had gathered earlier in the evening and consumed alcohol together. While they were sitting and conversing near the chowk, a minor disagreement reportedly escalated into a heated argument.
The dispute soon turned violent, during which Waghmare allegedly struck Tarale on the head with a glass bottle and later assaulted him with a stone lying nearby. Tarale sustained severe head injuries and collapsed at the spot. He succumbed to his injuries before he could be shifted for medical treatment.
On receiving information, Kharadi police rushed to the scene and detained the accused. A case of murder has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Godse said the accused has been arrested and efforts are being made to reconstruct the sequence of events. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of alcohol-fuelled disputes. Police have appealed to citizens to exercise restraint, avoid excessive drinking, and resolve disagreements peacefully to prevent such tragedies.
